Sculptures By Steve Hosch Are Available At Gallery 319, Ames, Iowa.

"My art is about transforming clutter, both figuratively and literally. Picasso once said, 'The purpose of art is washing the dust of daily life off our souls.' For him it was 'dust'; for me it's clutter. Finances, relationships, mind-numbing jobs, mortality, and other potentially stressful factors affect our lives and clutter our brains.

Since delving into assemblage art, my process as an artist has been an attempt to transform the clutter in my head and heart into art—using it, so to speak, to seek answers and fuel my creativity. Ironically, much of assemblage art is about literally transforming clutter. I love haunting flea markets, garage sales, and antique shops, searching for rusty bits and pieces, society's cast-offs, faded photos, and seemingly mundane objects. In my workspace these finds then 'speak' to me - often with humor, sometimes darkly - and I, Dr. Frankenstein-like, piece them together to form a work of art."
