Neoma Alt Thomas was raised in Audubon County, Iowa. She graduated from the Kansas City Art Institute in 1966 with a BFA in graphic design and a minor in printmaking. She lived in Sydney, Australia for seven years working as a designer and teaching at the National Art School. Upon returning to the States, she worked for a publishing company in central Iowa as a designer/art director for a number of years. She and her husband Phillip live in Webster City, where they have rehabbed a Victorian house.
