Artwork By Chris Cowan Is Available At Gallery 319, Ames, Iowa.

Chris Cowan was born and grew up by the sea in Portland, Maine. Having now spent most of her adult life in Iowa, she is drawn equally to the seas of her childhood and the seas of grass and wild flowers in Iowa landscapes. Chris came to world of art as a second career, having studied with Jennifer Rezek, Monika Pate, Cheng Khee Chee, and Paul George. Whenever she can, Chris spends whole days in the wild places, hiking, photographing, drawing, and painting. She paints in pastel, watercolor and oil as she responds to the great gift of beauty which is the natural world.

Chris has had numerous solo shows in the Ames area. She has had work accepted in numerous juried shows in Iowa including the Iowa Watercolor Society and Iowa Exhibited. She is a founding member of Creative Artists Studio of Ames, 130 South Sheldon, an artist's cooperative, and maintains a studio there. Last year she became a signature member of the Iowa Watercolor Society. Chris teaches classes in drawing, watercolor and pastel at Reiman Gardens, the Workspace, and in her studio. She also welcomes commissions and teaches private students.

"We all respond to the beauty of the world around us in unique and personal ways. I have used the camera, pastels, watercolor, and art paints to express my response to the elements of our visual world. These include light, color, air and water, fire and earth, flowers, fruits and animals. These elements combine in robust ways to give us our sunsets and waterfalls, our rocky shores and prairies, and even our hearth fires on winter nights. For the visual feast, for all that we are privileged to experience with our sight, my response is made in gratitude."
